THE PLANNING APPLICATION STRATEGY

  • An outline planning application will be submitted in early 2026.
  • This outline application covers the broad principles. Detailed designs will be submitted later, and there will be further chances to share your views before those stages are decided.
  • The outline application will be supported by a Design Code and Parameter Plans. These will ensure future detailed designs fit in with their surroundings and set key parameters such as building heights, materials, and layout principles.
  • Planning permission was granted for the demolition of the Assembly Rooms and adjacent multi-storey car park in 2024. This new outline application will seek approval for the comprehensive redevelopment of the site, public realm improvements to the Market Place, and demolition of one additional building to the north of the existing car park.
